Scanning Services


The Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Evaluation offers Scanning & Evaluation Services to all Texas A&M faculty, students, staff and administrators. Scanning & Evaluation Services scans and scores optical mark answer sheets. The answer sheet may be either a standard TAMU 8 1/2 x 11 Scantron™  or custom designed form. Only No.2 pencils can be used to bubble in answer sheets.

Scanning Services include:
  • General data entry service for data gathered through optical mark forms. Which can include:
    • Classroom tests
    • Course evaluations
    • Survey instruments
    • Other research instruments
  • Design and print custom scan able forms for testing or data gathering endeavors.

Scanning Services
  • Scanning Service is on a first come – first served basis for a normal load exam or research. 
  • Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • New customers are encouraged to consult with Scanning Services staff before rush periods (mid-term and final exams).
  • Consultation is provided for questions concerning Digital Desk Instructor Tools, grading of multiple choice exams, and choosing an appropriate scanning research form(s).
  • The possible wait time for results depends on workload and time of year. Turn-around time is usually 10-20 minutes, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
  • Exam pick up requires:
    • Photo ID
    • Instructor's Permission Slip
  • Final Exam Schedule:
    • Final exams will be process until 5:00 p.m. on final exam days. On the last day of finals week, exams can be processed after 5:00 p.m. by appointment only.

Scanning Research
  • Email Scanning Services with scanning research request.
  • Data, data analysis, and research services are available for research customers.

Scanning Services operates an Opscan 16 which will scan 8.5 x 11 inch answer sheets. Classroom exams require the standard Texas A&M University Form . Instructors/TAs will need to make a key or keys for their exams. Multiple forms can be scored separately or altogether. Instructors/TAs should bring their key(s) and students answer sheets to 315 Henderson. Students' answer sheets should be bubbled in with students' name and University ID Number (UIN) using a No.2 pencil for their score records. 

Note:  Students' answer sheets
 should be free of any physical damage including creases, tears, water marks or any other alteration that keeps the answer sheet from lying flat and being scanned.
