What We Do

The Survey Support function within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Evaluation (OIEE) provides coordinated leadership, survey design expertise, and strategic oversight for select university-level student surveys, as well as stakeholder consultation services. We help ensure surveys are clear, ethical, and aligned with institutional priorities so that the data collected can inform decision-making, drive actionable insight and support continuous improvement.

Mission & Goals

We aim to strengthen the role of surveys in institutional effectiveness and student success by promoting streamlined design, coordinated governance, and meaningful use of results.

Our goals include:

  • Ensuring university-level surveys are concise, purposeful, and aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Supporting colleges and units in developing high-quality survey questions and modules for university-level surveys.
  • Supporting Academic Affairs in developing and administering high-quality surveys.
  • Enhancing student engagement with surveys through intentional design and administration strategies.
  • Promoting the use of survey results for planning, assessment, and decision-making through clear and effective reporting.

Core Services

University-Level Survey Oversight

We provide stewardship and support for university-wide surveys, including Graduation Surveys, New Student Surveys, and other institutionally sponsored surveys as directed.

Services include:

  • Annual review of survey content using standardized criteria to assess clarity, construct alignment, and utility.
  • Management of college- level and unit-specific survey modules, including intake, consultation, and integration into university-level surveys.
  • Coordination of survey administration and reporting processes to ensure consistency and data quality.

 Survey Consultation & Project Support

We provide survey development and project support services for Academic Affairs, partnering with campus unites to design, administer, and report on assessment and feedback initiatives. Each project begins with an intake process to evaluate its purpose, target audience, key constructs, and feasibility. The result is a project plan aligned with stakeholder needs and best practices for data collection, which may or may not include a survey.

Services include:

  • Review of survey questions to ensure clarity, accessibility for respondents, and analysis readiness.
  • Development and drafting of survey instruments aligned with project goals.
  • Guidance on survey administration strategies, including timing, distribution methods, and respondent experience considerations.
  • Post-survey reporting and consultations on the interpretation and use of findings.
  • Referrals to alternative assessment methods or campus units when appropriate.
