What We Do

The Survey Support function within the Office of Institutional Effectiveness & Evaluation (OIEE) provides coordinated leadership, design expertise, and strategic oversight for select university-level student surveys and stakeholder consultation services. We ensure that surveys are clear, ethical, and aligned with institutional priorities—so that the data you collect leads to actionable insight and positive change.

Mission & Goals

We aim to enhance the role of surveys in institutional effectiveness and student success by promoting streamlined design, coordinated governance, and meaningful results.

Our goals include:

  • Ensure university-level surveys are concise, purposeful, and aligned with institutional priorities.

  • Support colleges and units in developing high-quality survey questions and modules for university-level surveys.

  • Support Academic Affairs in developing and administering high-quality surveys.

  • Improve student engagement with surveys through intentional design and administration strategies.

  • Promote the use of survey results for planning, assessment, and decision-making through clear reporting strategies.

Core Services

University-Level Survey Oversight

We provide stewardship and support for university-wide surveys like Graduation Surveys, New Student Surveys, and other university-level surveys as directed.

  • Annual review of survey content using standardized criteria to assess clarity, construct alignment, and utility.

  • Management of unit or college-specific modules, including intake, consultation, and integration into institutional surveys.

Stakeholder Survey Consultation

We offer survey development and support services for Academic Affairs, assisting with the design, administration, and reporting of projects developed in collaboration with campus units. Each project begins with an intake process to assess its purpose, target audience, constructs, and feasibility. This results in a project plan aligned with stakeholder needs and best practices for data collection—which may or may not involve a survey.

Survey support services include:

  • Question quality review using a standardized checklist to ensure clarity, analysis readiness, and accessibility for respondents.

  • Survey drafting aligned with defined project goals.

  • Guidance on survey launch strategies, including timing, distribution methods, and student experience considerations.

  • Post-survey reporting and consultations on data use.

  • Referrals to alternative methods or campus units when appropriate.
